All people can write a little poem...or one line that helps everyone feel like settling in and creating something. We'd like something postiive and uplifting as well as welcoming and
comfortable without being too mushy. Hahaha! that's alot, isn't it? Well, let's get started,
lets' boogie, let's blow the roof off, let's have fun. What's your line? What's the tune you
whistle?
Well, at the moment I'm using Ableton Live to record and mix a song of mine from some years back.
I'm kinda learning as I go along, so hopefully it'll sound professional when I've finished. Not sure about my working methods though, as I've never done a pro sound recording course.
I've just bought a new microphone which is all black and gold, and quite sexy. At the moment I've got my red cowboy hat perched on it (on a microphone stand).
I think one way of doing this would be some kind of blank space/file where we could all put in lyrics/ words/ideas that come up. Then this would represent a collective brainstorm.
Then you and/or Bright could set some parameters, like verse structure, number of verses, and the lyricists among us can refer to the brainstorm and "Have a go"
Then you select the best and have a "prize" for the winner. How does that sound for a first stage?

Hi Richard
I got a red cowboy hat with silver stars all over it from Santa as it goes! Now I also want a microphone to perch it on!
At least you sound clued up with the recording and mixing side of things. Whenever we get that far that will be very helpful....
I agree about everyone putting in their lyricsand ideas and using that as a brainstorm although the only way I know to do that on this site would be on a discussion similar to this. There are quite a few good ideas up already along the way which can be included. When I get some time I can try collating these on Word and pasting the list into one reply which we can add to as we go along.
Bright is the expert when it comes to song structures and that kind of thing. Rather than me selecting my choice we could vote on the winner. I am not sure what the prize will be yet but am pretty sure it won't be a round the world trip!
I do have a little melody I wrote back in the 70s that I was thinking about. I would like to hear from others. I am more of a lyricist and wish to keep it that way if I can.
Hope you all are planning something good for the weekend. Being as old as I am, a good cup of tea and lignonberry jam with corn muffins is like a
vacation in the Caribbean. :)
If memory serves me right Richard does melody well.
Has anyone heard of Tracy Thorn or Everything But The Girl? They did sort of jazzy, bluesy, stuff with a modern twist. That might go well for a cafe society. :>) But not all weepy, soppy stuff. Is just that when I think of cafes, I get this sentimental vibe that makes me think of Everything But The Girl. Then again, I am daft as a brush.
The other side of that coin is musak...the stuff you hear in Arndale shopping centres and that sucks.
Hmm...I guess there is really plenty of scope here and I am not disciplined enough to reign myself in to one theme or way of thinking but am watching how things pan out and really interested in this.

Yes I admit to 'bullying' Jamie into joining us!
Maybe we need to start another discussion on 'ideas so far' to try and narrow things down a bit?
As well as carry on coming up with ideas.
My latest idea was about having a chorus which I was going on about earlier and
I thought of that song from West Side Story 'Somewhere'
with the sameish sort of tune and different lyrics.
Slushy I know but there you go! Could be made up for with
some hard rock and punk in the verses.
And don't forget the funny parts as well!
"One day we will have our song
A funny slushy punky rocky song
Creative Cafe will have a hit
We will be it....one day....'!
Jill, I absolutely love your verse, "One day we will have a song, etc.!" It's the process of it all expressed and the knowing we don't have everything yet, but we can strive to have it, and then you include the name of the place, so people can closely identify the process with a place and then you express hope. I think you've got it, and it's good. Very, very good.

Hi Bright
Oh well I was just trying to be funny! I remember you said to me that we will have some fun doing this song. I find it easier to generalise about and imagine us having the theme song than pin down anything specific. But as I wrote to Richard just now when I get a bit of time I will try to
collate the ideas that have been put forward so far into a list on Word and paste them up.
Hope you and everyone are having a good weekend so far.
Bye for Now
Jill
I guess I can put something down. Usually when I am fired up and in stroppy mode so not really good for a positive vibe for the cafe. And sometimes a quick line or two will come into myhead. usually it is a bit manicky though.
All I am doing here is popping in...giving a few thoughts and popping out again. Cos I know my limitations. Lyrics...as in for a whole song...phewee...am hyperventilating at the thought. lols . I think Bright is much more capable than me (and that isn't me hiding anything under a bushall cos there isn't much too hide).
Your comments though, put a smile on my face and that will do for me. Sychophantically...nah! Was actually a nice comment you made.
Will be back when I get some inspiration or another manic burst of energy.
