Let your imagination run free

Where do you work from, do you have a certain room in which you can work better and get things done or do you just have your artwork/handicraft items all around the house?

At the moment we have a certain corner for all our materials but I would love to create a workroom as I feel we would be a lot more organised and get more done!!

I started working from home about three years back, and the first thing I realized is that you have to have much more discipline when working at home. You have many more distractions at home than you would in a typical office setting.

So what I did was turned our spare bedroom into my office. It is set up just as my office would be if I were driving into work. I don't have a television in there, and I pretty much use the office for work only. It has helped out tremendously. If you can do it Princess, then I would 100% recommend getting your own work room set up.

Thanks for the advice guys, we have a corner in the room which has baskets with all the tools we need and all the material, I have been organising it to get it together, but basically we live with my parents-in-laws until we finish building our house and after the wedding so as you can imagine space is more than tight it is actually not available! As for the noise well I could rant forever as trying to work with so many people in and out is not the easiest, I am talking Tunisian families that are extremely big and the 'welcome' sign 24/7 LOL - I shouldnt complain because I love them to bits but when your trying to work and get things done it is so annoying!!

I'm lucky -- I live in a two-bedroom apartment (not in the best part of town so it's cheap, but I get along fine with the neighbors) and the second bedroom is my computer/craft room. It's pretty excitingly decorated (I went with a tropical theme) so I guess I have enough distractions in here to still be pretty creative. Of course most of the herbal stuff has to happen in the kitchen so unless I get a place with a mudroom or spare kitchen I'll be spread out around the house anyway.

It works for me. Some people do better with a dedicated room. It all depends on what's best for your style, I guess.

I have a corner of my living room for art, but I keep most of my equiptment in boxes and closets. I wouldnt' mind just leaving it all out but my significant other keeps organizing it. All that I need is a big window or door next to my workspace to make it work.

We moved to a lovely cottage 18 months ago and I sectioned off an area behind the stair in the open plan kitchen sitting room. I've wedged a table into the door space as we don't need to use this door, so I get lots of light during the day. I have a stereo on one side with a little space for my iron ( I have to iron one handed with my left hand!) On the other side there are my boxes of fabrics with just enough space for me to squeeze in and out. Behing my chair there is a very handy space that goes in behind the fridge and under the stair. I have shelving in there with books and frames and more stash etc. I have the entrance side sectioned off with a stair gate to keep the kids out and the other side draped with a curtain to hide the mess! It's getting a bit rediculous trying to work in such a confined space and I waste a lot of time raking for the right colour of fabrics as they are all in the same box.
I used to have a caravan studio which I loved but again the space became quite confined. So appart from adding an extention I'll just have to make do!

My workroom is my whole house. I write and make small crafts so wherever I feel like working is where I go. I get inspired all the time in different areas of my home. I find the garden a wonderful place to have solitude and expression.
