What do you think of the world we live in?

Our Creative Cafe theme this week is 'The world we live in' . Looking at members lovely pictures of our world in the Spotlight slideshow we can be forgiven for thinking nothing is wrong. From beautiful sunsets over the sea to forests, deserts and mountains we see a variety of magnificant places on our planet, the Earth.

But what do YOU think of the world we live in? Are the pictures deceptively beautiful? Do they hide sinister truths about global warming and destruction of natural habitats? Or are reports of the world in crisis exaggerated? Are the pictures in our Spotlight proof that the world we live in is still sustainable and healthy enough?

Will be interested to hear your opinions.

Funny thing is; in all me wanderin's an' dawdlin's t'only thing i ever meet that truely baffles me is humans. Frank Zappa said; "There is more stupidity than hydrogen in the universe, and it has a longer shelf life. ..."

Of course the world we live on is perfect. It has spent its whole existence, a little over 4.5 billion years, becoming our home. And of course it will have more Earthquakes killling millions, more Volcanoes likewise and in all probability it'll recieve more devastating meteors over time, who knows what the fatality figures will be, but I'm convinced Earth will complete it's full life cycle with or without one or more species. For those currently wallowing in the doom-laden nonsence that is 'global warming' I suggest they join the ducks and fly very far North or very far South and the rest of us can carry on in our ever varying beautiful Eden.
Ar-Men!

Chorus:
(Vaguely to the tune of Jerusalem!)

"Land of Gullible morons
By band-wagons you'll be led
Into modifying your lifestyle
And foregoing your daily bread
You pay 'Green' taxes to con men
They invest it in doing more harm
Pushing humans close to extinction
Yet Earth Will have it's charm
Humans may go just like J'rasics
But Earth will live on with charm

As was said by Sophie on Mar 21st (See below) "Global warning and pollution cannot overcome the sunset the sunrise and the tide of the ocean. When I look at a picture of nature I see it for what it is, a natural powerful element that we all admire." -A good example of the 'Big picture thinking' thats so sadly lacking today!

I empathise with Iron Mar 24th (See below) -We all worry about our kids and their futures, but avoiding the drive to a supermarket or pondering the products will not 'improve' their chances in life.

The world we live in is beautiful and is not deceived by pictures of it. Global warning and pollution cannot overcome the sunset the sunrise and the tide of the ocean. When I look at a picture of nature I see it for what it is, a natural powerful element that we all admire.

I think that the world we live is now a mess, 10 years ago i had few worries in regards to my and my childrens future, no I have serious concern, mans progress will be at the cost of mankind itself. In 10 years time I see society breaking down totally - sorry for being a downer on a Monday morning

Iron,

I feel like you, I think, or close enough.

World is a mess really. That is not to say there aren't beautiful parts to it or lovely people but en mass it is all a bit grot (due to damage and devestation caused by man).

Yep, Ms Optimism, that is me.

I think the world we live in is perfect, just that humans do things to the world that it what in the big plan for it

Hmmm... good question. Where do I start? I think our world is a beautiful world with not-so -beautiful people. I don't believe that some reposts are exagerated but the media has always at one point or another showed us only what they want us to see. I think life is a beautiful thing and therefore the world we live in is also beautiful. True there are some bad people out there but I think there are more good people than bad. No one ever said living in this world would be easy and I think we just have to adjust and appreciate the things we have.

Have to say, I am Mighty Worried about the desecration of rain-forests, and the pace at which they are being flattened! It is one of those non-reversible encroachments on Nature that have dire consequences for all of us. Here's an interesting fact: The Sahara desert was a creation of the Roman Empire. Anyone who thinks they can plant a few conifers to compensate for the loss of rain-forest canopy is indulging in a tokenism which does not even salve anyone's consciences, let alone tackle the consequences of the rate of dereliction taking place. Someone must have thrown out the rule-book when it comes to Exploitation of the habitats of others.

Hi Rodney

Have you turned the reply setting off on your post above? If so could you turn it back on please.
We are all entitled to our own opinions on this site. Debate is encouraged but personal attacks and flaming are not what we want to see on Creative Cafe.

Have a good day

Hi Jill

Am I missing something here?

I have clocked that people have strong opinions and not all the same. No crime in that (even if they are based on ignorance..and that is not me being personal but stating that sometimes people have strong opinions without any information and knowledge to back them up)...but I missed the personal attacks being made.

I keep my personal attacks to the Lifeboat. And the reason I make such attacks is because of the corruption I see going on but I don't drag others into what I say. I say what I say and am prepared to stand alone and by my comments.

Anyway, sorry if things have got a bit lary although when people have strong opinions that can lead to tensions running high. Shame because debate...as long as it is with the intention of making positive difference...is a really good thing.

Hi Mandy

As far as I am concerned the following

'Your thinking has gone to Pot, so everyone else has to descend to your level of indiscipline and subversion of the imperative to address the problems facing humanity with something more than school-girl rhyme.'

is more personal attack than debate. And if the reply function is turned off the person concerned cannot even reply to defend their postition. I am thinking we may all have strong opinions and debate is a good thing but I don't think we want people getting personally snidy.

Bye for Now
Jill
