That is the truth, I really like that quote. It applies especially in the workplace or non profit organizations. Where are you finding all of these unique quotes? Do tell....
Abraham Maslow:
The key question isn't "What fosters creativity?" But it is why in God's name isn't everyone creative? Where was the human potential lost? How was it crippled? I think therefore a good question might be not why do people create? But why do people not create or innovate? We have got to abandon that sense of amazement in the face of creativity, as if it were a miracle if anybody created anything.
Maslow invented the 'Hierarchy of Needs' theory which is a triangle where everyone at the bottom first struggle to get the basic necessities of survival like food. Once these are satisied and sadly for many in the world they never are people then stuggle for more as in this diagram:
Needs for Self-Actualization
When all of the foregoing needs are satisfied, then and only then are the needs for self-actualization activated. Maslow describes self-actualization as a person's need to be and do that which the person was "born to do." "A musician must make music, an artist must paint, and a poet must write." These needs make themselves felt in signs of restlessness. The person feels on edge, tense, lacking something, in short, restless. If a person is hungry, unsafe, not loved or accepted, or lacking self-esteem, it is very easy to know what the person is restless about. It is not always clear what a person wants when there is a need for self-actualization.
The thing is in Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs only a few in the world get to the level of looking for self actualization and becoming creative so his quote above asking why everyone is not creative is disingenious since he already answers his own question in this theory.
great quotes. The clarke's quote is really impressive.I too believe that when we are in some problem , we can have two ways in front of us.(one is easy and wrong but the other is difficult but good).we should never choose the wrong path because eventually its going to make you feel regreted.
