Creative Cafe list of art and craft markets, exhibitions, fairs and competitions you may want to enter

It has struck me that a list of art and craft markets, exhibitions and compettions you may want to enter could be useful. I get some of these through on google alerts and will put up any I notice. If other members do the same we can develop what may become a useful resource.

Exeter City Council is proposing a series of small one-day markets in Castle Street during the three-week period prior to the Christmas break, with each day following a specific theme. They are planning gift markets on Thursdays, food markets on Fridays and craft markets on Saturdays. There will also be a chance for charities to become involved, with a one-off charities market planned for Saturday, November 29.

The council says the emphasis of the markets will be on high-quality products and is inviting local traders, food producers and crafters to call its markets office on 01392 665480 if they are interested in taking a stall. Charities wanting to apply for a stall can also contact the office.

Exhibition: 26 Apr – 7 Jun, 2008 PREVIEW: Fri 25 Apr 6–8 pm
Artists' Book Fair: Sat 24 May

'PRESS & RELEASE' is celebration of artists' books and independent publishing, showcasing an intriguing selection of UK and international artists, with work ranging from the profane to sublime. The exhibition provides an opportunity to encounter a range of visions arising out of the world of artists’ books within an imaginative, improvised space dedicated to revealing the artist’s book in a new light. Sculptor Ben Thomson has completely transformed the gallery space into an environment housing the work of individual artists and publishers, presenting books and related ephemera outside the conventional glass case. The show includes over 30 individual artists and groups, with an emphasis on limited edition, hand-made work that stretches the parameters of printmaking, mixed media and other approaches, to arrive at highly original and inventive permutations of the book format. Ranging from underground comics to journals, pop-ups, posters, web-based pieces, installations and gate crashers, the work provides a glimpse into the dense and multifaceted world of self-publishing.Highlights includes John Dilnot’s cabinet of curiosities, hand-cut pages from Kaho Kojima and Chisato Tamabayashi, Batool Showghis’ family albums, Paul Clarke’s gothic childerns’ stories, Mayan women’s collective Taller Leñateros, and installations by Nicola Dale, found sound duo reassemble, and collaborative trio Borbonesa. In the south gallery, Alasdair Willis scours cyberspace for self-publishing pioneers and rogues, and fills the walls with his discoveries. Books and other publications are for sale in the exhibition through the Permanent Gallery Bookshop.Special guests include Le Dernier Cri, an artists’ publishing house in Marseille that generates beautiful and intense, often disturbing limited-edition books, prints, and animations from European, American, Japanese and South American artists. They are joined by Knust, an artists’ collective from Nijmegen, Netherlands which employs a unique stencil (mimeograph) printing process and champions some inventive ways of producing books, posters, cd’s and wallpaper.

Anyone interested in this?

Free Artistic Exposure to Thousands
I am looking for artists (fine, digital, photographic, cartoonists etc…) who have a connection with the London borough of Kensington & Chelsea in some way who would like to get some free exposure to local residents.
The idea is to get a different artwork on the front cover of my magazine each month and then just inside the magazine to print some information on the artist and where/how people can buy their work. It creates free exposure for you to 10,000 K&C homes and gives me a very nice front cover, so really win/win.

If you live in the borough then your work may be of any subject matter. You do not have to live in the borough to participate though, if you are based outside of Kensington then I would be looking for an image that is in some way synonymous with the area (one of the land marks, your favourite spot etc…)

If this sounds like something you could be interested in please visit my profile and get in touch.

I got forwarded this from Michelle at iCandy who is based in Hastings (she runs events in that area and has a shop there that is looking for artists/crafters if anyone's interested)
This isn't run by her but she forwared it anyway so I thought I'd share the info.

Laddingford Aerodrome (near Paddock Wood, Kent)

BBQ, Craft Fair and Barn Dance.

August 30th - Bank holiday weekend

> 200+ people will be attending and the host is offering a free BBQ meal to stall holders.
>
> A Barn Dance is being planned for the evening. I will let you know if that is occurring and hopefully we can all join in too.
>
> Tables are £12 each (with a £5 booking fee payable before 1st July) with as much space as you like undercover in an aircraft Hangar.
>
> If you are interested please let me know if you are a 'yes', a 'maybe' or a 'no' asap. (not me Katherine - Jenny Collins, address below)>
>
> The latest news is that the MG Club and another flying club are coming to the Laddingford BBQ & Barn Dance too, which should double the number of potential buyers.
>
> My tack on this is the women and families will be so bored with the men's flying antics that they will go shopping mad! :O)
>
> Anyone a 'Yes', 'Maybe' or a 'No' for this one?
>
> Jenny Collins

As yet I'm undecided as to whether to do it, will decide nearer the deadline I think.
