Let your imagination run free

Do we want the "latest activity" module back on Creative Cafe?

I took out the latest activity module which I was moving as I didn't have time to keep logging back into the site and checking what was happening every couple of hours as I had been doing! Now I wonder if you want it back or not?

Will be glad to hear your opinions on this subject.

Hi Leslie

Yes until recently I was confused between forum discussions and blogs. The discussions like this one have their own page on the tabs at the top and are in different categories. They can be set to show up either the latest discussions or most popular or only ones that are specifically featured. At the moment they are set to show up the latest and we have not had so many because I moved them down the Main page to make way for the Blogs which are now at the top in the Spotlight. Everyones own blogs show up on their own page and they are currently set to show up the latest 10 on the Main page.
I suppose a blog is more individually creative in that the person writing it choses the whole layout and what pictures, slideshows, videos if any to include. Then any comments on it focus on the blog and its content. A discussion is much more of a two way communication and some discussions are started off on one subject and then veer off in all kinds of directions. I suppose it is more like a conversation.
I have experimented with different layouts since we opened but since joining that Entrecard scheme and visiting many blogs I was struck with how varied they are and how versatile blogs are as a format. Since we are all about being creative on Creative Cafe I got to thinking it is the most flexible format for members to demonstrate their creativity. And at least it is members chosing what they want to write about rather than me always chosing for people as I seemed to be doing before.

Anyway we will see how it goes. The layout on the Main page is simple enough to change around so nothing is fixed permanently. But I have noticed that whatever is at the top of the Main page in the Spotlight whether it is photos, blogs or discussions gets the most activity on the site.

And yes I will try to be more relaxed over how much activity we get all the time!

Yes hope everyone has a great weekend although it is only Thursday yet isn't it? If not I have lost some days somewhere!

Hi Jill

I did initially wonder what happened to it and why but not so as to lose any sleep over it.

I liked the other activity thingy because it showed when people had added things to their page and now I don't know when people add things to their page so can't, easily, find out.

Like Leslie, I like to see when new things are added. I am a curious person too. :>)

It Should be renamed the "Curiousity" module! -Either that or the "Noseybit"!

Hi

Well it is now September 1st so I have returned the latest activity monitor module (or curiosity module if you prefer!)to the site as seems to be the general wish. I may swap it in and out for various periods again though in order to check what if any effect it has on site visits and traffic with the Google analytics.

Bye for Now
Jill
