Let your imagination run free

This discussion is to try and make some facts about our Salesrooms site a bit clearer than they may be at the moment.

The first thing is you can get to our Salesrooms at the top of the page at SALESROOMS under the logo, on the main page and to the right side of every members page.

The second thing is that the Salesrooms site is built on an off the shelf software package by Rainworx and so we do not have that much say in the way that it looks or runs. We did not have the money to have a custom made site like say Etsy or Red Bubble built but I did check out a lot of different software packages before deciding Rainworx was the best we could afford.

You do have to register for the Salesrooms and after answering the questions you will be sent a verification email. If you do not receive this straight away then please check your Spam folder as it may have gone in there.

Once you have verified your account you can immediately start to list your items for sale. You can have your own free Salesroom where all your listed items can be seen together and for the moment you can have up to 4 free photographs per item. At the moment all the listings are free and the first 50 items to be sold in the Salesrooms will also be free of any commission. So now is a good time to list your goods for sale in our Salesrooms.
You have the option of accepting Paypal for payments and for this you will need to include your Paypal email address.

The Salesrooms site is more like Ebay than Etsy in that you can list your items for sale as an auction but you do not have to do this. You can sell your items for a fixed price Buy it Now
cost. You can relist items automatically up to 6 times and set a long sales time so that if items do not sell straight away you will not have to keep doing relistings. You can also end a listing early if you sell the item elsewhere.

While we are getting going sales may not be that frequent but several members including myself have said that they still have presents to buy so there will be some sales. So with everything free at the moment you have nothing to lose by trying out our Salesrooms.

How much will the salesroom cost once it is up and going and is that the first 50 items sold overall on the site, or the first 50 by each buyer. (think I have found the right place for all those questions now). Will email this site details to all my friends and relatives and see if word spreads.

Hi Jan

At the moment it is the first 50 items sold in the Salesrooms which are free of any site commission. There have been about 15 items sold so far so that means 35 to go. Once we reach that number we will see if there are enough listings in the Salesrooms and enough traffic to the site to justify charging site commission and if so this will be around 3 to 5% which seems to be the amount most sites charge.
Eventually we would like the site to be busy enough that sales commission covers the site hosting fees but at the moment these are being paid by donations and we are more concerned with building up the site traffic and encouraging members to list their lovely works so there is a good variety of things for sale.

Thanks for saying you will send the site details to your friends and relatives. We have a low promotions budgets so we are always pleased for any help with spreading the word!

Bye for Now
Jill

This is actually a general comment regarding the website. Perhaps you can improve the readeability on your site - I find some parts rather diffcult to read; the other comment is to have some subcategories in your forum. Good job!

Hi Jill,

When I tried to register with the salesroom the only option was for a credit card to which I do not have, most of our transactions are done via Paypal, I did notice that you said this is available but I am not sure where or maybe I missed it ???
