UK-wide competition offering a cash prize worth up to £50,000 to help individuals, groups, organisations or music venues compose and perform a piece of innovative, ground-breaking original new music.
A single winning entry will receive up to £50,000 in cash to help cover the costs of creating, composing and performing the musical piece.
The New Music Awards is a UK-wide competition run by the PRS Foundation.
It offers a £50,000 cash prize to help individuals, music groups, arts organisations, and music venues to create, compose and perform a groundbreaking new piece of original music. It aims to seek out and reward artists who are willing to take musical risks and produce creative, inspiring and adventurous work.
For the purposes of the competition, "new" music is defined as:
Entries must be made by 08 January 2010.
A long-list of candidates will be announced in February and given until the end of March to provide additional information.
The winner will be revealed in September and given until December 2011 to complete and perform their work.

Entries can be in any genre as long as they "push boundaries, take creative risks, and lead to exceptional work".

The winning entry must result in some sort of live performance of the piece. This can be in any media (performed live at a venue or special location, broadcast on the radio, TV or internet), but must be publicly accessible. The live performance can be presented in any format and collaborations with other art forms are encouraged.
Costs associated with creating, composing, producing and performing an original musical piece.
The competition cannot support ongoing projects or collaborations - entries must be related to new, original pieces of work.
The New Music Award takes place every two years, so the next call for entries will be in late 2011.
