Since we opened Creative Cafe in 2007 we have had the tagline Don't Let Disability Mean Inequality.
We have shown that Disabled People can be just as creative as those without disabilities.
But recently Disabled People in the UK have come under attack with the mainstream media calling us names like scroungers and workshy and the government threatening us with cuts to our essential benefits and services. This means our struggle against inequality is made even harder.
So here in the UK Disabled People and our allies have been organising together to protest against the cuts and media attacks against us. Good groups to follow are:
Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) at http://www.dpac.uk.net/
Black Triangle - Anti-Defamation Campaign In Defence of Disabled Claimants on Facebook at: http://www.facebook.com/blacktriangle11
We do not feel the cuts are needed here in the UK when the money could be gained from other sources. For example £120 billion is said to be lost in tax evasion and tax fraud. Why cut welfare by £7 billion and hurt the disabled and vulnerable when Vodaphone alone owe £6 billion in unpaid taxes.
