About Me and my Creativity.
Mzuri Women's Empowerment is a Ugandan Community Based Organization founded in 2006. The members are 20 women who live in the village of Ndejje, outside Kampala. Most are widowed /single parents who struggle to find employment to meet their families essential needs, i.e rent, medications and school fees. They have made connections with two volunteers from the UK, and their jewelry has been selling. Their designs may be ordered through the website, or at the Nancy Smillies shop in Byres Road, Glasgow.

The pieces are hand rolled from strips of magazine pages or posters. The strips are then rolled around a needle and varnished. The colour of the beads all depends on the colour of the magazine page or poster. There is no paint involved. The ladies then use them along with smaller glass beads to create their own designs. They have over 50 designs and are continuously creating more. The ladies are ready for orders of any size, anywhere, and there are other ladies waiting to be trained for the future.

Mzuris’ primary aim is to meet the essential demands of the ladies and their families. They receive 100% of the money. When the all these costs are covered by a larger demand for their crafts, the Community development work plan will be put into practice. This will involve a community education center and other community development projects. Examples of these are adult learning classes, HIV and AIDS awareness, IT skills, poultry keeping, sports, dance and drama groups.

Now that we are getting to be a bigger group it is

important all our members can still feel they are

being heard. Your opinions and contributions are

what make Creative Cafe a lively community.

We want everyone to join in and be involved.

To help with this you can now chose the members

photos which go up in the Mainpage Spotlight

Slideshow. Ten new photos are featured every few

days and you can chose the ones you want

HERE

We now have a Blog of the Week feature so the

more blogs you write the more chance yours will

be chosen to go in the limelight on top of the Main

page. Vote for which Blogs of the Week you want

 HERE

Write discussions about your own projects & websites

and these will be found in their own Category

HERE

The more active a member you are on Creative Cafe

the more your contributions will be recognised and

the more your voice will be heard.

This week with my own hands I have set up a new group

on Creative Cafe for anything to do with disability which

you may like to join? And isn’t it handy that we have a lot

of interesting discussions going on at the moment. Please

don’t be shy and at least give us a helping hand with the

one where members introduce themselves. And hands

up if you have thought of buying any of the lovely

things in our Salesrooms lately? That would be a truly

handsome thing to do. Finally I have to rush off now

because I have my hands full sending round this comment!
