Let your imagination run free

There seem to be one or two garden orientated people here so I thought I might seek your help. This plant appeared as a tiny thing hiding under a hebe last year, presumably a gift from the birds. This year it was still there so I transplanted it to a sheltered spot at the fence. My neighbour and I have been through our plant books and can't find out what it is. Does anyone here recognise it? Must admit it is starting to bug us now.

Oh good Margaret. I knew if anyone knew it would be Cynders. She found out what the unknown flower I had in my garden was as well.

Thank you Jill and Cynders for putting me on the right track. It is definately an Impatiens. After checking the wickipedia I am tempted to say that it could be this one http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Impatiens_balfourii as this is more like the flower shape and distribution at the end of the stalk only. I am heartened to read that it is likely to appear every year. The first dead flower stalks seem to be making pods, so fingers crossed.

Don't know Jill. This is the first time that it has flowered. We thought it had a familiar look to it, could well be impatiens, I stopped having the houseplant varieties as they always got attacked by sticky insects and died. Will keep a close eye on it for the pods. Thanks for spending time on this.
