Let your imagination run free

I AM AN ARTIST came the bold cry. After sitting in his bedroom in the far corner of his bed, he had been pushed to the limit of his tolerance. Anyway, that's a bad day around here. Let me introduce myself. I go by the name of Alec. It's my middle name. I sometimes have to mention the names Dale and Morrison: my first and last names. I graduated at the UW - Seattle in the Spring actually. The day after I went to my graduation ceremony, my dad who had been recently diagnosed with terminal cancer, committed suicide. It's been particularly hard on my mom. But we are learning to live with it. Next week we are going to mail in our tax return. Dad's name is on it. His last tax return.
Since my dad died, I have been getting around $450 a month. I've been buying things for the computer. Software, a WACOM tablet, a new monitor. Dad's computer is in the basement. He was into computing 'til about 2001. Then he didn't want to learn anymore about innovations. Dad's computer is text-based. You can't really get images on the Internet, just in the MS Encarta Encyclopedia. You can however read all of the content on the Internet. And there is a 45-minute limit on the connection to the internet. I can plug in a telephone line, and the internal modem dials up Seattle Community Network, and log in, check email, surf the web.
So I'm studying physics this quarter. We are into electricity: currents, resistance, capacitance, the power that is dissipated. And voltage, are the things we study. Things I probably should have learned in high school. I'm planning on going into Atmospheric Science. But that's a ways off at the moment. Yesterday I got a book called "The Digital Animator's Bible." It really has me wanting to call up KEXP and try to get an unpaid internship. I guess just to get some experience. I have Maya's Personal Learning Edition for a year, well more like six or eight months right now. I think I should be creating things, but all I seem to be doing is to try to grasp the physics.
Mom is going to play bridge on a regular basis. She really likes the game, and has to be around people. Disablility? you may ask? In addition to my mental condition, which requires 3 or more drugs to keep me functional, I recently got diagnosed with diabetes. Sprinkle in some hepatitus C, stir it up and you have me.
I'm gonna try and put up some pictures of my surroundings. I live in Seattle, Washington, USA. I recently got a digital camera, with a small memory card that stores about 6 or eight photos between downloads. I got a new SD memory card yesterday, some ink for my printer, and the aforementioned book.

Hi Alec

I think you week in the Spotlight has been going well. When I change the slideshow next week I will put in the Cafe news that this discussion is up with your article so you may have some more comments. How is the exhibit going at your Community college. It sounds interesting to have a time-machine sculpture anyway.

Bye for Now

Jill,
Yeah, I like the Surrealists. I'm trying to be influenced by Yves Tanguy, who used to paint "inscapes." I wrote a paper a few years ago comparing him to Magritte. I suppose I'm also influenced by Dali. I put a time-machine-sculpture in an exhibit that is supposed to open tomorrow at the Art Gallery at my community college. It's called "1978."

Hi Alec

Wow. Good. More pictures. To put captions in them you have to load them in as seperate pictures and to put them on the slideshow I need them as seperately uploaded pictures. Sorry to give you more work! Oh I see meteorology yes that makes sense to me now. Illegal to tell the weather here until 1959. That's a new one on me. Wouldn't surprise me though. There are some very strange laws still around in this country...

And thank you Alec for your great contribution.

Bye for Now

Thanks Jill,
I was going to write you and ask how to do it, but I just put it in my blog, which I think I just started. Pictures too. Can I put captions on them. I think Atmospheric Science is often known generally at Meteorology. I heard that it was illegal to forcast the weather in Britain until 1959? Yeah, I've started using the WACOM tablet for making my drawings for our experiments in Physics. At first I used just a mouse. Tell Cruekid that I'm getting into Kirchoff's laws.
Thanks again,
Alec

Hi Alec

I am sorry for you loseing your Dad. It must be hard to come to terms with the way he died as well.

Your account is very interesting. I am afraid I don't know what 'Atmospheric Science' is though? Is it the Wacom tablet you use to do your digital artworks?

Thanks for writing your account. It will go up on the Main Page under your spotlight slideshow soon.

Bye for Now
Jill
